How early can I have an MOT test?

ANSWER

MOT tests can be carried out up to one month before the expiry date of an existing UK MOT certificate. Please note that a current MOT certificate must be presented to the examiner at the time of the test.

PLEASE NOTE:

The maximum price price set by the Government for MOT tests is currently £54.85

Unless a garage has is advertising an discount offer, this will be the price you should expect pay

Be wary of garages offering low MOT prices!

Why?

The average MOT test time is around 45 minutes and garages charge an hourly labour rate and for parts so, for example, a £30 MOT charge is very questionable.
The average garage running costs would mean that at this price they would lose money on the MOT booking.

This means they may intend to make that money on the repair work from your MOT failures. Possibly meaning high repair quotes and low quality of work
